Paper Bag Fishies (Ages 3+)
You will need:
Brown paper lunch bag
Coloured pencils, glitter/sequins stickers
Elastic Band or string
Newspaper
Ice Cream stick
What to do:
- Draw the fish's mouth and eyes with a pencil.
- Decorate paper bag using coloured pencils and glitter/sequins and/or stickers.
- Using tape, stick the ice cream stick on the inside of the bag poking out the end
- Scrunch up a piece of newspaper and place in inside brown paper bag.
- Tie the end of the brown paper bag with elastic band or string.
Sand or Salt Pictures (Ages 3+)
You will need:
Sand or salt
Cardboard
Glue stick
What to do:
- Using the glue stick draw a picture or pattern.
- Pour sand or salt over the picture.
- Shake off the excess sand or salt.
- Place your picture somewhere to dry.
Icy Picture (Ages 3+) ![]()
You will need:
Ice Cube tray
Water
Food Colouring
Cardboard or thick paper
Freezer
What to do:
- Fill ice cube tray with water.
- Make a few different colours in the tray by dropping a different dye in each cube.
- Place in freezer until the water has turned into ice.
- Take out of freezer and empty cubes onto plastic plate.
- Pick up ice cube and begin to draw on cardboard to make a colourful painting.
- Hang your picture to dry.
Salty Jars (Ages 5+)
You will need:
Chalk
Salt
Chalk
Small Glass Jar
Newspaper
What to do:
- Pour a small amount of salt onto newspaper.
- Rub chalk into salt changing the colour of the salt.
- Pour salt into bottom of empty jar.
- Pour more salt onto the newspaper and use a different colour chalk.
- Fill jar with 4 or 5 different layers.
- Use skewer by poking down the sides of the glass jar to create marbled effect.
- Place cotton wool the fill up any spare room in the jar.
- Tighten lid onto jar.
Hint: you may wish to find some material and place it over the lid and tie it on with string or elastic band.
Handy Duck (Ages 5+)
You will need:
Colour pencils or textas
Paper Plate
Scissors
Glue
What to do:
- Draw around both of your hands on a piece of paper and colour.
- Draw a circle for head and a beak and colour.
- Cut out the drawn hands, circle and beak.
- Fold 1 paper plate in half and colour.
- Using the glue, stick hands on one end of the paper plates.
- Using glue, sick the beak on to the circle head and stick onto paper plate.
- Draw eyes on the head of the duck.
Paper Plate Snake (Ages 5+)
You will need:
Paper Plate
Scissors
Textas and pencils
Red Ribbon or paper
Glue
What to do:
- Colour the paper plate. (You may like to use glitter or sequins)
- Cut the plate spiralling in to the middle.
- Grab the end that is in the middle of plate and glue a small red strip for the tongue
Ice Cream Stick Picture frame (Ages 7+)
You will need:
At least 8 Ice cream sticks
PVA craft glue and glue stick
Photo or picture
Cardboard
Paint and sequins or glitter to decorate
What to do:
- Cut out your photo or picture into a square no bigger than 10cmx10cm.
- Place and glue onto Cardboard or thick paper using glue stick.
- Place four ice cream sticks overlapping each other into the form of a square and onto cardboard and glue these together using the PVA craft glue.
- Place another 4 Ice Cream sticks on top of the first 4 and glue together.
- Trim the cardboard so it is not hanging out the sides of the Ice Cream sticks.
- Decorate how you wish, popular choices are Sequins, Glitter, Paint and/or Seashells.
- Now your Picture frame is ready to hang. (Blutack is a good idea!)
Paper Mache' (Ages 7+)
You will need:
Balloon
Newspaper
Water
Glue (Made from flour and Water)
Paint
What to do:
- Blow up your balloon to desired size and tie the end.
- Shred newspaper in to thin strips.
- Place glue using hands or paint brush onto balloon.
- Stick newspaper and press down using hands.
- Continue to cover the balloon and continue to make another 3 or 4 layers.
- Leave somewhere to dry over night.
- Once thoroughly dry and hard continue to place another 3 or 4 layers and. leave to dry again.
- When completely dry pop the balloon.
- Paint over newspaper and decorate accordingly.
Hints: Good things to make are piggy banks which are well made with using cut up egg cartons for legs and nose and then cut a small slit on the top for the money to go or something special.
Little Felt Badges (Ages 7+)
You will need:
Paper
Pencil
Felt
Wool or string
Needle
Sequins
Safety pin
Cotton wool
What to do:
- Draw and cut around the outline of a picture on paper. (animals are good!)
- place picture on felt and draw around the picture, cut it out. (do this twice)
- Place the two pieces of felt together and using a needle and wool or string, sew 3/4 around the edge of the shape.
- stuff some cotton balls into the pocket you have formed.
- Continue the sew around the rest of the shape and tie off the end.
- Decorate to your desire.
- Place safety pin in the back.
- Pin onto clothes
